Legacy work is about connecting, sharing precious memories and gives us a memento to hold on to. Often completed before your loved one passes away, it can be simple or more involved if you so choose. Sometimes, starting out on legacy work can feel overwhelming so here are some ideas to consider if this is something you or your loved one are interested in completing together.

  • Voice recordings with specific messages or stories

  • Recipe book of your loved one’s favorite recipes

  • Plaster / ceramic handprints

  • Finger print made into jewelry

  • A blanket / quilt stitched from their favorite shirts / dresses

  • Cards or letters written for a future date / event

  • Video recordings of your loved one sharing their stories. There is no right or wrong way to do this, but here are some examples of questions / topics to consider to help get you started:

    • Where / how did they get their name?

    • Where were they born / what was their birth story?

    • What was their earliest childhood memory?

    • Did they attend a university?

    • How did they choose their career?

    • When did they get married?

    • What did they do for fun?

    • What is their favorite story about each of their children?

    • What do they most remember about each decade of their life?

    • What were their parents like as they aged?

    • What advice would your loved one give about aging?

    • If they could go back to any age, what would it be?

    • What (if anything) would they have done differently?

    • What or how do they want to be remembered?

    • What is most important to them?

    • What is their most cherished tradition of the family?

    • What would they want each of their children and / or grandchildren to know 25 years from now?
